Andrea Bernard, born Hoffmann, is a native German speaker who has been working as a journalist, webmaster, IT consultant and translator in Japan and Germany for 11 years. She published and co-authored two books on Internet and i-mode and published articles about the Japanese wireless market in German and English magazines and newspapers. Andrea is fluent in German, English and Japanese.
Until 2005 Andrea worked as the General Manager of the EGIS Consulting Tokyo office, assisting international clients in their strategies for the Japanese telecommunication market. During her consulting career, her client reports were written either in English or German. She also translated various Japanese IT related sources into English and German as part of her daily work.
From 2005 to 2006 Andrea studied oriental acupuncture, shiatsu and basics of Western medicine fulltime at the Toyo Shinkyu College of Oriental Medicine in Tokyo.
Andrea now lives in Paris with her French husband and their small son. She works as a freelance translator translating from Japanese to German, Japanese to English and English to German. Andrea holds a M.A. degree from the Free University of Berlin in Japanese Studies and Media Science and graduated from a vocational school in microelectronics.
